Sound Design & Editing: Seminar by Ai-Ling Lee
We just attended the ‘Sound Design & Editing: Seminar’ yesterday night! The speaker Ai-Ling Lee, was the primary Sound Designer/Sound Director for the films Lalaland, Maze Runner, and Wild! It was such an insightful event where she shared her processes and experience while working on those films. We learned so much, and hope to apply some of the tips in our future projects!
🔉The 3 Tips She Gave to Aspiring Sound Designers 🎛 💡
1. Always be recording sounds: light buzz, broken things – it may come in handy in years to come!
2. Use organic sounds as a basis for your sound design, even for sci-fi sounds!
(An example she gave: You can process bird chirps and crickets to make them sound like digital beeps!)
3. Find the right sound instead of stacking many layers of sound together (etc. 6-8 layers): it gets muddy and lacks definition!
Alright, that’s all for this post! Have a great day! For music composers, we have our own guide on how to get your music into video games!
