How twin sisters from Singapore turned a passion for music and audio into a thriving business
WOW Sound produces an array of royalty-free music and audio assets, with 40 packs available now on the Asset Store with more to come. These twin sisters from Singapore have a passion for music and audio, and they now work full time on their Asset Store business.
Sing Ern and Sing Huey founded the WOW Sound studio in August 2015. While she was still in school, Sing Ern began her career in audio, landing a part-time job creating music and sound design for a gaming company.
In 2012, she was accepted into a GAMBIT summer program, held in Boston, Massachusetts. Her obvious talent led her to a position as a music composer and sound designer with Boomzap Entertainment, a game developer with over 50 titles released to date.
Sing Huey, after seeing the success of her sister, was motivated to find audio jobs in the gaming industry as well. After connecting with several Singaporean studios, she was offered a six-month internship at Ubisoft Singapore, where she worked on Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. Though she continued to accept small gigs in commercial videos and short films, she has been in the gaming industry ever since.

After the internship, Sing Huey joined her sister at Boomzap as a music composer and sound designer. Both sisters eventually moved to similar positions at another company, IMBA Interactive. By 2017, about two years after starting WOW Sound, it was time to immerse themselves full time, and they left their positions.
Customers are a strong motivation for the work they produce. Positive feedback via email, Asset Store reviews, and their YouTube channel push them to keep creating and feed them ideas for new packages they can produce.
“Using the Asset Store has been an excellent experience for us! It has been a breeze for us, knowing nothing about the Unity Engine, to upload our audio assets.” As the twins discovered, though uploading requires use of the Unity Engine, new users will not have any trouble becoming an Asset Store publisher. “It is effortless to make changes to your asset, and the Asset Store has an excellent search function and gives good exposure to all assets.”
We can expect much more from WOW Sound in the future. “As the trends in gaming change every year, the type of music and sound effects will be different, and we hope to provide audio assets that match the latest gaming trends.”
When working on a new music asset, they usually begin by researching the type of music used in recent games, both mobile and console. From there, they browse the Asset Store to see if quality packs of that type are already available. If they find the genre of music is not represented, they fill the gaps with their own work. For genres where other publishers have a presence, they seek to make their music different in order to give end users more quality custom music options.
That being said, the sisters agree that “the music genre also has to be something we like, and are excited to work on!”
Business is growing, and Sing Ern and Sing Huey have begun working with other composers in order to expand their music library in ways that wouldn’t otherwise be possible. They’re exploring the potential of working with sound designers to create even more sound libraries for use in games.
You can find their Exploration Game Music Pack used in the game “Last Day on Earth: Survival” by Kefir Games.
