Uploading Audio Assets to the Asset Stores
As requested by Christopher on our previous blog post, we decided to do a step-by-step walkthrough video on how to upload audio assets on Unity Asset Store and Unreal Engine Marketplace via the respective game engine. I remember taking time trying to figure out how to use the game engines and to upload assets to the store.
On Unity, although it is very straightforward once you figure it out, it took me awhile as there were no post or video online on how to upload assets to the store. Even though you will receive the steps in PDFs from Unreal Engine on how to create the project file for upload, it can be confusing at times. It requires way more time and effort to upload files as compared to Unity. So we hope these videos will help make things more straightforward and easy for you! Alright! Let’s get started! 🙂
Unity Asset Store
You will need to create a Unity Asset Publisher account first before uploading assets. We are using Unity Version 5.3.2 in the video.
Here’s the example of the ‘code’ based description for our ‘Asian Fantasy Music Pack‘.
1. To bold your ‘Text’, add <strong> ‘Text’ </strong>
2. To add the link(s), you can use this format:
<a href=”https://wowsound.com/product/asian-fantasy-music-pack/(link)“> Website Preview (Text Title for link)</a>
3. Add <br> for line breaks.
[ It appears like this in the asset store ]
Unity Asset Store has updated their Package upload page since the 9th July 2018 but no worries, everything is about the same. The only new thing is you get to fill in additional details to specify which versions of Unity and platform the asset will work with, SRP details (You need not worry about SRP if you are selling audio assets) if applicable, and any other dependencies.
[ I got this image from the Unity Publisher Forum ]
Since I’m working on a Mac Computer, I chose the option ‘Mac OS X Universal’ for the Package tests. For the other three fields, go ahead and select ‘No’.
Another thing, you now also have the option to ‘Auto Publish’ or ‘Self Publish’ your asset. For ‘Auto Publish’, once your asset is approved, it will publish immediately. For ‘Self Publish’, your asset will not publish once it is approved, you get to publish your asset yourself.
Unreal Engine Marketplace
The same thing, you will need to apply for a seller account to start selling assets! You can find the tutorial PDF here! We are using Unreal Engine Version 4.17.2 in the video.
Do use the shortcut keys for renaming!
Mac shortcut: [ Fn ] +[ F2 ]
Windows: It should be the [ F2 ] key as well! Apologies as I am not sure about this.
After you are done renaming your files, delete the Folders [Intermediate] and [Saved] and also under [Content] Folder, delete [Collectors] and [Developers].
*Audio files have to be in 44.1khz and 16-bit!
We hope this has been useful and let us know if you have any more questions!
All the best! 🙂
